“I can’t recommend Ryan enough. He is so knowledgeable and helpful but also doesn’t make you feel silly for the lack of techy skills. Personable, polite, quick to find the issue and great service.”

What we can help with

Start with what your business needs.

You do not need to choose the technical solution first. Tell us the outcome you need and we can work out the sensible route to it.

Business files are held on a single computer or server
Nobody is sure which folders the backup includes
Backup jobs show warnings or have stopped running
Shared files and Microsoft 365 recovery options are unclear
A backup exists but no one has tried restoring a file
Your team needs a practical plan for device or data loss

Which business data needs backing up?

Start with the information that would interrupt work if it disappeared: customer documents, accounts files, shared folders and the data used by business applications. We review where the agreed information is stored and whether the current backup actually includes it.

Files on a laptop, a local server and a cloud account may need different protection. The review identifies the relevant devices and services, how often the data changes and any application-specific recovery requirements that need further investigation.

Local backup, cloud backup or a combination?

The useful choice depends on the amount of data, internet connection, available storage and the disruption the business can tolerate. A local copy may be convenient for some restores, while a separate cloud or off-site copy can address a different failure scenario.

We discuss suitable options and the costs before you decide. Storage devices, backup software and cloud subscriptions are priced separately where required. Access to backup accounts and recovery information should remain available to the business owner or an authorised person.

What does a restore check tell you?

A completed backup job does not show by itself that the right file can be restored. Where the setup allows, we can try a sample restore to an agreed location and check that the result opens, without overwriting the working copy.

The check records what was tested and highlights limits. Restoring one document does not prove that an entire server or application will recover within a particular time; a broader recovery exercise needs its own scope.

How much work could you afford to lose?

Two questions help shape a realistic plan: how much recent work could the business recreate, and how long could the team manage without access? The answers guide backup frequency, retention and the recovery arrangements to assess.

Those expectations need to match the equipment, services and budget. We explain practical gaps and agree the next steps rather than promise a recovery time before the environment has been assessed.

Microsoft 365 files and cloud services

OneDrive synchronisation keeps files in step across locations. It should not be treated as proof of an independent backup. Built-in file recovery, version history and any separate backup service have their own settings and retention limits.

Tell us which Microsoft 365 services hold important information and what you need to recover. We can review the existing arrangements and discuss additional backup where it is appropriate; the product, coverage and subscription are agreed separately.

Who checks the backup after setup?

A handover should make clear who checks job results, who investigates failures and how the setup is reviewed when staff, devices or folders change. Otherwise a backup can quietly stop protecting the information people now use.

FixPoint can provide a one-off review or discuss scheduled checks within an ongoing support arrangement for your Basildon business. Continuous monitoring and full disaster recovery are separate requirements and are included only when expressly agreed.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about business data backup & recovery planning.

Can you check an existing business backup?

Yes. We can review the agreed backup configuration, recent job results and the files it covers. A sample restore can be included where access and the system allow, with the findings and limits explained.

Can you set up a backup without replacing our computers?

Often the existing devices can be assessed first. We recommend changes around the files, storage, connectivity and recovery needs, and explain any extra hardware or subscription costs before work starts.

Is Microsoft 365 automatically covered by our computer backup?

Not necessarily. Coverage depends on the backup product and configuration. A computer backup, cloud synchronisation and a Microsoft 365 backup can protect different things; the review establishes what your setup actually includes.

How often should a small business back up its files?

That depends on how quickly the information changes and how much work you could recreate after a loss. We discuss the business impact and the available setup before recommending a schedule and retention approach.

Can backup checks be included in ongoing IT support?

Yes, where agreed in the support scope. The arrangement should state which backup jobs are checked, how often, who responds to failures and whether restore testing is included. Software and storage subscriptions are identified separately.

What if we have already lost important files?

Tell us which device or service is affected and what happened. Avoid further changes to a failing drive. Recovery depends on the available copies and the type of failure; complex or physically damaged storage may require a specialist provider.
